LO4: Planning for the production of the graphic design product.

Budget:
Both Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop are subscriptions so I have to pay for them monthly. I got the quote for the printing from 221 Quote, I had decided to have 100 A6 sized flyers printed which I think that this will be enough to put up around Sheffield. For my merchandise I got all of my quotes from the plain-t-shirts.co.uk. From looking at the attendance of the other music festivals that are similar to mine they get an average attendance 15,000 people per day, because my music festival is new and the venue can be deemed as small when it is compared to venues of other music festivals. I think that I will have a average attendance of 1000 - 2000 people. Therefore I wanted to have 1000 of each piece of merchandise and I think that this will be enough. By adding up the cost of the equipment the grand total come to £6849.92, so I would need around £7000 to get all of the material ready for the music festival. I have not included the cost of getting someone to design the logo and that is because I will be the one that will design it.
Profit:
If there was an average attendance of 2000 people and the tickets for the event cost £50, then that should make £100,000. That would leave me with a profit of around £93,000 however, one of the things that I would have to consider is how much I would have to pay the artists to preform at the festival. The three main acts would have to be paid more than the others, it is most likely that after paying for all of the artist I would end up with a very small profit for my first year.

Legal and ethical:
My campaign would be moderated by the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) so I would have to make sure that all of my graphic designs and adverts follow their guidelines.

Some of the sponsors for my events are alcohol chains and they have to be included on my print based adverts. This is also an indication as to what you will be able to buy whilst at the event. I have to be careful on how I present this on my advert so that it doesn't seem like I am promoting irresponsible drinking.

I need to be cautious when making my my graphic designs to make sure that it doesn't include something that may offend someone. I could avoid causing offence to someone by designing some pieces that fit round my intended target audience.

I need to make sure that that anything that I am advertising does not have any information that may be misleading to the public. This can be avoided by leaving out things that I can not control my self and only include things that are certain to happen. However somethings may be unavoidable for example if an artist cancels at the last minute or if the weather on the day is too bad to carry out the event.

LO4: Adobe Illustrator technical learning.

Adobe Illustrator is a program used by both artists and graphic designers to create vector images. These images will then be used for company logos, promotional uses or even personal work, both in print and digital form.

Glossary

Raster - This loses quality when you stretch the image. This is also called a lossy file.
Vector - This keeps he quality and it is also a smooth image. This is also called a lossle file.
Export files.
PNG - This stands for Portable Network Graphic.
JPEG - Joint Photographic expert group.
TIFF - Stands for Tagged Image File Format and it is used for printing, they need to be at least 300 ppi. This is lossless.
EPS - Encapsulated post script file.

These are some of the things that I did when I learning all of the features of Illustrator.

LO3: Presentation feeback.

After I had finished the presentation I had asked for three people to give me feedback on my work.
The first response:

The third response:

From looking back at the feedback from my peers one of the things that I am going to do to is to expand on merchandise that I had planned to do. I am going to include things like lanyards and badges along with the shirts and jumpers. I am also going to make some alterations to the design of my logo, since my logo is representing hip hop and RnB I am going to change the colours from dark blue and white to the black and gold. I want my logo to have the same effect as this:

LO2: Production Plan.

Above is the production plan for creating all of the pieces needed to go ahead with my event. All of the designs for my pieces should be done by 21st of december.

Since my event starts on the 29th of July all of the poster and flyers should be released at least 4 weeks before. Once that is done the only thing that is left to do is package up all of the merchandise and transfer it to the venue in time for the Launch date.

LO2: Potential ideas.

Music Festival.
My first idea is to make products for a music festival, the festival will revolve around RnB / HipHop music and it will be called Urban fest. After looking at some of the products that are usually at music festivals I would like to make:
  • T-shirts
  • Hats
  • Bags
  • Jumpers
  • Wristbands
  • Tickets

The design of my Hats will be based off the logo that I am creating, which is Black and Gold. The house style of my Hats and of the logo are based of the the TV show Empire which is about being in the music industry and resolves around Rap and RnB music. Black and Gold are going to be the main colours that I will be using because those colours tend to associated with that genre of music and I want people to have an idea of what the products representing just by looking at it.  The targeted audience for the show are people in the age range of 18 - 25 with around 70% of them being males. This is the type of audience that I will be that I will be targeting for my products. However, the age range for my products will be 50% males / females. With the rise of artists like Chance The Rapper and Kehlani more females are staring to enjoy this type of music.

The bag will be made available in two different designs, one will be mainly Black and the other one will be mainly White. With the Black design I want the whole bag to be Black however,  I want the stitching, zips and the handle straps to be Gold which sticks to the house style of my products. My logo would either be on the top section of the bag above the smaller compartment of the bag or it will be the on the face of the smaller compartment. With the White bag I am going to have a White and Black polka-dot design across the whole bag. The stitching, zips and the handles straps are all going to be Black. The logo will be on the same place as the previous version where it will be on top of the bag or on the smaller compartment, this will depend on the feedback that I receive from other students. This would appeal to my target audience because a lot of people in that age gap like having bags as an accessory with some people collecting them for their designs.

The shirt will be available in three different designs and all of the shirts will be short sleeve shirts. The first design will be a Black shirt that will have the logo on the front of the shirt that will be across the mid section of the body, and on the back it will have the year of when the event was held in and all the names of the artist who preformed across the three days. I could possibly have the logo on the top left of the shirt instead of the middle and it would be smaller. The second design will have a White and Black polka-dot design with the logo being small and on the top left hand corner. The neck area and at the end of the sleeves the colour will be solid Black.
The last design will be a Grey shirt, this will be the same design as the Black shirt whereby the large logo will be across the body of the shirt and on the back it will have the year in which you attended the event with all of the artist who preformed on the back. The jumpers will be the same as the shirts where by all of the colours are the same as well as the designs on them.

LO2: Promotional ideas.

I want the colours of my logo to represent the conventions of some of the music at my event. The type of music that is going to be played is RnB and the colours associated with that are Black and Gold. The outer circle is going to have shine on it to make it look like it light is reflecting of it, the inner circle in going to be black and the writing is going to be gold. The gold colour intensifies as it goes down the logo. My main inspiration for this logo comes from the logo from the TV show empire. Any promotional or advertising product with have my logo on it and would mostly be a watermark but, for the tickets the logo will be the main piece of artwork for it.
For my merchandise I want the colours the to either be white or black as they would go well with the colours of the logo.

LO2: Moodboard.

Target audience:
The target audience for my festival would be 50% males and 50% females that are in the age range 18 - 25. They would also be ABC1's and this is because music festival tickets can be quite expensive.

LO1 Task 1: Analysing existing graphic design work.

A) Purpose:
The main purpose of this graphic design work is to advertise the music festival Coachella. Their main form of advertising is the big billboard poster that displays all of the acts that are supposed to attend the event. However the majority of their advertising in done through their merchandise like their jumpers and T-shirts, this allows people who have bought their products to advertise the event for them.
B) Format:
The format that is present for the Coachella festival is promoted is different ways, the most commonly used and the most effective form of advertising is the poster. However the logo that they have is used on their tickets and their clothing line.
C) Content:
The contrasting colours on the poster makes the text stand out but it isn't any easier to read and that is because of the font size. Start of with the font size is big and this connotes all of the headline acts that are preforming     I think that the layout of the poster is good for the advertising aspect of the poster however it is not very good at promoting the artists that are preforming at the event. Although the contrast in colours does make the font easier to read however, as you read further down the page the font gets smaller and smaller and it soon becomes hard to read.

F) Target Audience:
Coachella caters for a wide range of people, the genre of music that they provide are Rock, Indie, Hip Hop and EDM. Those four genre's of music are the most popular types of music in the music industry, therefore I would say that the target audience for this poster would be anyone between the age of the 18 and 30 who lives in america. The target audience is quite open and this is because the event is welcome to everyone and they are open to any sort of artist who wants to preform at the festival.

G) Regulatory Bodies:
This poster would fall under the ASA rule '08 sales and promotions' whereby the promoters must be responsible for all aspects and all stage of their promotions. One of the other things that organisers must do is that they should avoid causing unnecessary upset. This is something that they cannot be in complete control of, some of the artists that are advertised on the poster may be unable to preform and the organisers would have no choice but to let if pass.

A) Purpose:
The main purpose of this poster is to advertise the event and also to promote the acts that are preforming. One of the main purposes of this logo is to make the thing that it has been place on recognisable, for example if you was to put this on a poster you would then know that this is advertising the wireless festival. The main purpose of these is to allow people to purchase things at the festival without having to use physical money, this eliminates the problem of having your money stolen.
B) Format:
This is in the format of a poster.
C) Content:
The poster displays all of the acts that are preforming across the three days however some of the acts have their name in a contrasting colour and their name is bigger than the rest of the acts. This connotes to the audience those acts are the headliners for the three days. All of the names of the other acts are a lot smaller. The names also follow a pattern, the well known acts are are displayed first where as the fringe acts are displayed last. This is also shown by the decreasing font size. The background colours of the poster connote what type of music this festival is going to be playing, the art behind it is in a graffiti style and one of the connotations of this is that it is linked to the urban culture. On the bottom left of the poster there are all of the sponsors of the festival, this is one of the main aspects of advertising. If a company is sponsoring your event then they usually ask that you advertise their product, in this case because most of the sponsors are from drink companies those drink will be sold at the event.

F) Target Audience:
The target audience for this poster would be anyone in their late teens or early twenties most like in the age bracket 18-23. Although the acts are appealing to people who are younger it the festivals target audience would be in this age bracket because off all of the explicit language that may occur at the festival, anything of a explicit nature must not by displayed to anyone under the age of 18. The other reason is that at the festival alcohol will be served. G) Regulatory bodies:
E) Regulatory bodies:
This type of the poster falls under the ASA rule 'sales and promotions' whereby the promoters are responsible for all aspects and all stages of their promotions and the promoters must conduct their promptly and efficiently.

A) Purpose:
The main purpose of this graphic design work is to advertise the Leeds music festival. Their main form of advertising is the big billboard poster that displays all of the acts that are supposed to attend the event. However the majority of their advertising in done through their merchandise like their jumpers and T-shirts, this allows people who have bought their products to advertise the event for
B) Format:
The Leeds festival is promoted in many different ways so that it can get its advertising campaign to a wider range of people. Some of these formats are:
Posters, T-shirts, Wristbands, Bags and jumpers.

E) Target Audience:
The target audience for leeds festival would be people around the age of 18-26, this is because this is around the age of students. The gender for this will be for both genders since the festival has a wide range of bands and singers. Most people that would attend the music festival would be ABC1's and this is because they are a lot of things to buy in order to get ready for it and they can be quite expensive.
F) Regulatory bodies:
The ASA are the advertising standards authority and they are the organisation for the advertising industry. This poster fits in with the guidelines of the ASA as a poster because the poser is not advertising any violence or glamorising drugs and alcohol.

A) Purpose:
The main purpose of this graphic design work is to advertise the Isle of Wight festival . Their main form of advertising is the big billboard poster that displays all of the acts that are supposed to attend the event. However the majority of their advertising in done through their merchandise like their jumpers and T-shirts, this allows people who have bought their products to advertise the event for them.

B) Format:
The Isle of Wight festival is promoted in many different ways, this includes:
Poster, T shirts, Bags, Jumpers.

D) Target audience:
The target audience would be anyone in their late teens or early twenties most like in the age bracket 18-23. Although the acts are appealing to people who are younger it the festivals target audience would be in this age bracket because off all of the explicit language that may occur at the festival, anything of a explicit nature must not by displayed to anyone under the age of 18. The other reason is that at the festival alcohol will be served.

E) Regulatory bodies:
This ticket would fall under the ASA rules '08 sales promotion' and ' 09 Distance selling'. The sales promotions states that the promoters are responsible for all aspects of and all stages of their promotions and that the promoters must conduct their promotions promptly and efficiently. The distance selling states that distance selling marketing communications must make clear the marketer's identity.

A) Purpose:
The main purpose of this graphic design work is to advertise the Glastonbury festival . Their main form of advertising is the big billboard poster that displays all of the acts that are supposed to attend the event.

B) Format:
The Glastonbury festival has many forms of advertising so that a wide range of people can access the advert. The poster is the most popular form of advertising and that is because it is the most successful form of advertising. The other forms of advertising is the actual logo, the organisers of the festivals have used that logo on all of there posters so it is easily recognisable therefore, by having the logo on things like bus shelters and on the side of bus people will know that the festival will be happening soon.

D) Target audience:
I would say that the target audience for the Glastonbury festival would be between the age of 18-45 years old, the artist that preform at Glastonbury suit are wide rage of people. Some of the singers would have been prominent back in the 90's and have been brought back to the event for the enjoyment of the older people that are attending. The people who would attend the event would be ABC1's and that is because the tickets are very expensive and it would cost quite a bit of money to get all of the essentials for the festivals.

E) Regulatory:
When referring to the ASA the advertising of Glastonbury does fit into the guidelines as it does not promote any violence or alcohol and it clearly states what is going to be at the event.
